Development planning

AZ Urban Studio has secured planning permission and listed building consent for the installation of a large permanent artwork by the leading British artist Rachel Whiteread to the facade of the Grade II* listed Whitechapel Gallery. The work will see the completion of the celebrated Art Noveau facade more than a century after it was built without the decorative frieze originally envisaged for the panel in the upper area of the Whitechapel High Street elevation. The project is part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad and continues the long association between Rachel Whiteread and the gallery.
