WGC 2120 – Welwyn Garden City Strategy

Planning policy and strategy

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, AZ Urban Studio advised Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council on planning matters related to their ambitious plans for Welwyn Garden City.

Following almost two years of investigation, design, consultation and option testing. The result is a draft spatial framework, WGC 2120, for the town centre. The framework includes exciting regeneration proposals to bring additional homes, leisure, retail and community spaces to the heart of the town whilst respecting its very particular characters as one of the finest new towns. A critical first step was the securing of planning permission for the expansion of the car park at Campus West, allowing consolidation of surface car parking. AZ Urban Studio led, the planning aspects of this project. Details are available here.
