The old Royal British Legion building, Moxon Street
Development planning
AZ Urban Studio has secured planning permission to redevelop a prominent corner site in the Wood Street Conservation Area of Barnet. The development involves the demolition of the derelict old Royal British Legion building and the construction of four large flats.
Working with Sergison Bates Architects and our client Heights (UK) Investment Ltd, we prepared a detailed Heritage Assessment setting out the established character of the street and surrounding context, the value of the existing structure to the Conservation area and the acceptability of its demolition and redevelopment. In addition to Sergison Bates beautiful drawings, the Heritage Assessment formed a key element of the planning application along with the Planning Statement which we prepared for the project.
The consented development includes four generous flats housed in a single building. The building that reflects the changing context of this transitional zone which moves from retail and commercial to a domestic scale. The buildings two roofs, helps the building to sit comfortably within the existing townscape.
