The Common multi storey car park, Hatfield
Development planning
AZ Urban Studio has secured planning permission for a major development in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. The development includes the construction of a four-storey car park, which will accommodate 420 car parking spaces.
The project is a crucial component in the council’s broader regeneration programme for Hatfield. It allows consolidation of much of the existing surface car parks, which account for almost a third of the area of the town.
This consolidation will allow future redevelopment of these sites. Delivering 150 new homes, commercial floorspace and public realm improvements, while protecting the vitality of the existing retail. Planning permission has been secured for One Town Centre, delivering 79 mixed tenure flats.
AZ Urban Studio led the preparation and submission of the planning application and acted as agent. We undertook negotiations with the Local Planning Authority and led the public engagement process (as part of a broader engagement process run by the council).
The consent builds on our earlier work, including the preparation of an EIA screening request for the broader town centre renewal programme as a whole. Also, we secured temporary planning permission for a separate car park to mitigate disruption during construction.
