Development planning

AZ Urban Studio has successfully secured planning permission for a substantial house extension on Metropolitan Open Land (MOL) in Hackney Wick/Fish Island. The proposed development includes extensive landscape improvements, a new swimming pool, and the construction of a large extension and deck. This project replaces existing dilapidated structures, offering the owners additional living accommodations and entertaining space.

Sanchez Benton Architects led the project, designing a contemporary extension that considers the unique characteristics of the site within a Conservation Area. The design also mitigates earlier damage to the house, which underwent significant modifications when used as the set for the Big Breakfast TV show in the 90s.

Throughout the project, AZ Urban Studio provided planning services and acted as an agent liaising with the LLDC. We successfully convinced the authorities that the proposed design respects the context and is appropriate for MOL due to its size and minimal impact on openness.

This project is one of several private residential schemes in the Green Belt or MOL that we are working on with various architects.
