Box room is a beautiful one-room apartment located in east London, designed by Manalo & White.

AZ Urban Studio secured permission to convert the building from an artist studio into a one-bedroom apartment under Permitted Development Rights.

The architects have maximised the small space by hanging the bedroom from the underside of the new roof, so the living space is column-free and clear of structure around three sides.

AZ Urban Studio had advised the client on planning strategy and managed the Prior Approval process. Following securing the principle of development planning permission was subsequently granted for the change of use with external alterations to facilitate the development. AZ Urban Studio advised on both planning and heritage matters.
